Amidst obstacles in having an import license, Yangon Port is witnessing the arrival of the container ships as usual. This year, 409 container ships have already arrived at Yangon Port for the past eight months–49 ships in January, 53 in February, 55 in March, 50 in April, 52 in May, 50 in June, 50 in July and 50 in August. Another 55 will arrive in September, and it is learnt.

Altogether, 645 container ships from the different international shipping lines arrived in 2023 calender year while 647 container ships in toto arrived in 2022.

Such a figure can be said to be small when compared to that of nations within the region.

However, entrepreneurs and foreign investors are optimistic about the Myanmar election promised by the head of state.

Naturally, the economic policy will change when there is a regime change. Yangon Port can handle very well the embarkation and disembarkation of ocean liners as it has 47 ports in toto.

The good news is that the container shipping lines are being heard to be making preparation to extend their voyages next year.
