Wrist-tying festival held

A ceremony at which a white thread was tied to the wrist of the Kayins in Myanmar was held in the town hall of Dawei at 8 am on 31st August on a grand scale.

The objective of holding the wrist-tying ceremony is to reunite the relatives far from one another as well as to further strengthen the patriotic spirit and the unity among the Kayins.

This is a centuries long festival, and this noble tradition has been passed on from generation to generation.

The white thread tying ceremony was attended by the Reverend Sayadaws, the members of the regional government, the Kayin nationals, and the entrepreneurs.

The attendees performed tying of the white thread in accordance with the traditional practices. As this festival is held in the month of Wagaung, this festival is also known as the Wagaung Wrist-tying Festival.
