Nearly 300 lost their lives, over 80 still missing–SAC

Typhoon Yagi has caused flooding across the country commencing from early September, and a total of 293 people have been kille-d with 89 still missing as of 19th September, stated an announcement issued by the Information Committee of the State Administration Council (SAC).

Besides human casualties, altogether, 129,000 animals were k-illed in the floods, and 766,500 acres of land put under the cultivation of paddy and other crops were inundated, the statement said.

A total of 425 relief camps have been opened, and over 160,000 people from 47,000 households are being provided assistance, it learnt.

In addition to the aforesaid casualties and damages, 113 departmental buildings, 919 schools, 331 religious edifices were damaged by the floods. The roads, the bridges, and the communication towers wee also adversely affected, it is stated.

SAC, on its part, is actively carrying out relief activities, promising to provide monetary assistance in proportion to the level of damage to the buildings.

Rehabilitation measures are being taken to be able to resettle the flood victims in their original places. It will take at least six months to resettle the victims, it learnt.
