Senior General urges EAOs to have perfect trust in peace talks

​Nay Pyi Taw,1st Aug–Explaining the 18-month performance of the national duties at the meeting of the National Defense and Security Council held on 31st July, State Administration Council (SAC) Chairman Senior General Min Aung Hlaing convinced that the Ethnic Armed Organizations (EAOs) can have perfect trust in the peace negotiations. 

He said,”The door has been opened wide enough to negotiate peace. I’d like to urge you from here to tread on the path to peace. I’d like to point out that if you really want to bring benefit to the union and to the indigenous people born within the union, dialogue is the best way.”

Additionally, he said that 

 prevalence of peace and prosperity within the nation is important to national development and that  a total of 21 ceasefire announcements were issued from December 20, 2018 to end of 2022. 

“During the 18-month period, I myself have met with EAOs for nine times while the coordination committee has met with the EAOs, the political parties and other organizations wishing peace for 75 times in toto, and discussed peace and national as well as regional wellbeing,” said the SAC chairman.

Additionally, the year 2022 has been designated as the year of peace, and so, invitation was sent to the leaders of EAOs on 22nd April, 2022 to meet with the Senior General himself to effectuate the peace talks. 

“Seven of the EAOs  that have signed the Nation-wide Ceasefire Agreement (NCA) and three other EAOs that have not signed NCA have given reply to discuss peace. Of them, we have already discussed with nine organisations, and the rest one is coming soon,” said SAC Chairman.

The discussions focused on pursuit of multi-party democracy system that is in concordance with the people’s aspirations, building a union based on democracy and federal system and what is really needed for the nation and the regions. The discussions have been made in a frank and friendly manner with striking a proper balance between the needs and wants.

Furthermore, discussions were made regarding the points agreed in the Parts 1,2 and 3 of the Union Accord. Besides, Schedule Two of Part III was also discussed with agreement reached and  signed.
