Myanmar is a nation endowed with cultural and historical heritage, and therefore, all the duty conscientious citizens are willing, ready and prepared to preserve their traditional and cultural heritage.
Nevertheless, they are now being faced with deep concerns over the possibility of these cultural sites being torn by the conflicts. Their worries are caused by a certain video clip spreading on the social pages. The emergence of this video clip has made the archaeologists issue warnings.
This video clip features testing of arms in the vicinity of Mingun Temple, which used to be the biggest religious edifice during the reign of Bodaw Phaya. As known to all, this site is of high cultural value for possession of historical evidence.
This is the reason why the successive governments have been maintaining this area properly. They are very much worried about this cultural site being adversely affected by the armed conflicts.
In fact, the rules of engagement have prohibited the belligerent groups from waging wars in the vicinity of cultural sites.
Although testing of arms did take place, the date of testing is not known yet. People say testing was conducted on the temple’s platform.
We have already experienced the ruining of religious edifices in Mrauk Oo in Rakhine State in recent years. Similar incidents have taken place in Kyaikhtiyoe in Mon State and Tantkyitaung in the Bagan area.
