Fraud of votes in 2020 Election forces us to intervene–Senior General
If they had held the 2020 Election in a free and fair manner, we would not be in such a situation like now, said Senior General Min Aung Hlaing at the coordination meeting held in Nay Pyi Taw on 8 August.
“The emergence of the political issues caused by the election results has forced us to assume all the responsibilities of the state,” explained the Senior General.
“Although NLD has won a landslide victory in the 2020 Election, the political parties led by the Union Solidarity and Development Party(USDP) have complained
to me, saying there were cheatings in the election, and so, I have informed the NLD to check again the voters lists and the election results. Additionally, I called on the NLD government not to convene the Hluttaw (Parliament), said the Senior General.
“I’ve told the responsible persons to verify the voters’ lists, and to hold the Hluttaw only after checking the voters lists. Besides my direct dealing with the NLD government, I have also warned them through the responsible army officials. But they didn’t follow my advice, and so, I was forced to intervene, declaring the state of emergency,” said the Senior General.
No sooner had the military taken over the power than it checked the voters’ lists. As expected, the Union Election Commission found irregularities like casting of votes without having the Citizenship Scrutiny Certificate, the voting by the people of under 18, double voting by the same person and the voting by the dead people.
Although the military, USDP and other political parties made complaints against the election results, the NLD government did not listen, failing to check the election results again. They also failed to convene the last session of the Second Pyithu Hluttaw. And they tried to convene the first session of the Third Pyithu Hluttaw forcibly against the warning by the military, and this has led to taking the responsibilities of the state by the military.
