Wingabaw ECBT elephant camp near Phayagyi in Bago township,Myanmar, on 26 August witnessed the delivery of different-gender  twin. The mother elephant gave birth to female calf at 3:38 am on 26th August and she delivered the male calf four minutes later.

The mother is known as Parl Sandar, who is 21 years old, and this is her first delivery. The baby girl is named Parl Sint while the baby boy is named Kyaw Parl.

Delivery of twins is a rare case with only one per cent giving birth to the twin. Stranger still, different-gender twins are very rarely born. Cases of delivery of female twins have never been reported.

Mother elephant is being fed paddy as a supplement to enable her to yield more milk of nutritional value, it is learnt. The baby calfs are fed with milk through the feeding bottle.

Thailand also witnessed delivery of a different-gender twin on 7th June 2024. They were born with the time difference in delivery being 18 minutes. On 24th October in 2022, another case of twin birth was exported at the Rosamond Gifford Zoo in Syracuse in New York in US. They are male twin.

In fact, the twin elephants are difficult to bring up. The Wingabaw Miracle can attract  the visitors for observation of the twins as well as for relaxation.
